Child Car Seats & Seatbelts

Montana state law requires children under age 6 and weighing less than 60 pounds must ride in a federally approved car seat or booster seat that is properly installed and used. The law in Montana further requires that all other people in the vehicle must be wearing a seat belt if they are not required to be in a car seat.

Why Wear Your Seatbelt - Just a few reasons:

• Vehicle seat belts are designed to keep you inside the vehicle where there is additional reinforcement and safety devises such as airbags.
• During a crash, properly fastened safety belts distribute the forces of rapid deceleration over larger and stronger parts of a person’s body, such as the chest, hips and shoulders. The safety belt stretches slightly to slow your body down and to increase its stopping distance. The difference between the belted person’s stopping distance and the unbelted person’s stopping distance is significant and can be the difference between minor or major injury or even death.
• Keeps you in your seat and therefore not a danger to other passengers.
• It's the Law.
